The Thame Neighbourhood Plan
What is Thame's Neighbourhood Plan?
Thame was a frontrunner and one of the first towns to establish a Neighbourhood Plan following government changes to planning policy. The new planning framework aimed to create a planning system that is plan-led, evidence based and which would empower people to shape their surroundings.
During local council elections in May 2013, a referendum was held in which voters were asked:
“Do you want South Oxfordshire District Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for the Thame Area to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?” 76% of voters said ‘YES’
What Does the Plan State?
One of the main comments raised by local people during the consultation period was a desire to retain the number and mix of independent shops in the the town centre. The plan’s key policy to support Thame’s shops is to focus new retail development within the town centre boundaries.
